How Merchandise Design Works
How Printing Works:
I can print *most of my already-made designs or a brand-new custom design on many different things— canvases, posters, business cards, pamplets, banners, wall tapestries, fridge magnets, stickers, throw blankets, pillows, pillow cases, rugs, matts, jigsaw puzzles, clothing, and the list goes on. (See the full list of categories below.) I can even print on bathroom shower curtains and water bottles— so if you want my designs printed on a specific product, make sure to ask if it's avaliable before dismissing the idea, even if it's something strange.
*Some products have more printing room than others, so the product you choose will determine (to a small degree) what type of design can go on it. I will be sure to let you know if there are any conflicts, although in most cases I can simply re-create the design to make it fit to whatever product you choose.
Here are the main categories of products I can print on:
How Your Quote Works:
Your quote will not only include my time spent modifying the design to fit your product choice as well as any customizations you want, but also the price of the actual product and the shipping cost for making it arrive at your door (that's the fun part). For the most part, time spent in communication with you reguarding the product design is free of charge.
On the other hand, if you want a completely new custom design, that would not fall under the Product Design service, but rather my Image Compositing, Graphic Design, or Logo Design services, and then once the design is created, we can dabble in a bit of Product Design to get it printed for you. If you don't know which category your project falls under, don't worry— that's something I will decide after you tell me about it.
Keep in mind that your quote will be at most an educated guess, as there are a number of variables that can affect how long it takes to modify an existing design, as well as changes/additions you choose to make along the way.
How payment works:
For payment, I'll email you an invoice which will reflect the most recent quote I gave you. If you're curious about how it works and what to look for when I send it, you can find the instructions for finding and paying your invoice here.
When I send the invoice, it will come from dawson@fortheking.design. I'll notify you when I send it so make sure to check spam if you don't see it.
Time for some expectation setting.
A project like this is a back-and-forth sort of thing. I always follow my client's instructions as precisely as possible, but it's still uncommon for the first draft to be exactly what you envisioned. Maybe someday we will be able to neurally link our brains together and you can imprint your exact vision on my mind, but until then there will likely be several drafts.
One way to vastly speed up the process is to provide me with image references— visuals I can see to help convey your ideas. After all, they are worth a thousand words.
The timeline for creating and modifying the design for print can vary significantly, ranging from a few hours to sometimes even 12 business days. This is primarily due to:
1) the complexity of your project,
2) any modifications you wish to make during the process,
3) and the speed at which you're able to provide feedback.
Then there's printing and shipping time. It varies quite a bit between products, so it can be anywhere from 5 business days to two weeks, depending on the product you choose and the time of year. (Holidays and all that.) As large as this range is, it's the most precise timeline I can provide without knowing the details of your project and how promptly you will provide your valuable feedback.
And now moving on to what I need from you:
